Australia and U.S. in Alzhiemers attack - $29m collaboration

Researchers in Australia and U.S. have joined forces for a stem cell developmental attack to aid Alzheimer's and Parkinson sufferers.
$29 million dollars has been invested in a project involving the Victorian Government and Californian Institute of Regenerative Medicine (CIRM), that will establish strategic projects on stem cell research aimed at accelerating treatments of disease.
Five development research organisations receiving this funding are: -
* Australian Stem Cell Center, Melbourne, Australia
* University of California, Irving, Ca.
* Florey Neuroscience Institute, Melbourne, Australia
* Burnham Institute of Medical Research, La Jolla, Ca
* Scipps Research Institute La Jolla, Ca
Robert Klein, CIRM chair, together with Prof.Trounson, formerly of Stem Cell Laboratories, Monash University, said the collaboration of Australian and Californian researchers marks a historic milestone in stem cell research in globilising the battle against disease. Robert Klein continued "medical research missions must be global to capture the best minds of every nation to fight chronic disease that have plagued mankind throughout history".
Inovation Minister Gavin Jennings, representing the Victorian Government, was present at this major stem cell announcement. Acknowledgement Biotechnews.com.au Geoff.
